Job Description

Ensures optimal functioning of building systems including mechanical, electrical, fire/life safety. Supervises a staff of employees in the maintenance of buildings and grounds. Oversees contractors for facility renovation projects. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Reports to the head of Facility Maintenance.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain the buildings and grounds of an organization, directing staff and overseeing the upkeep of equipment and supplies.

  • Adhere to all applicable Environmental, Safety, Health, FOD and Operations Procedures/Directives with assistance from leadership.

  • Ensure buildings and grounds are maintained, which entails daily and weekly cleaning schedules as well as determining and scheduling repairs, renovation projects and safety inspections.

  • Oversee groundskeepers, maintenance workers, and custodial staff.

  • Motivate and coordinate employees, as well as deal with any disciplinary issues that may come up.

  • Supervise and coordinate work of contractors.

  • Ensure that work by staff or contractors has been completed satisfactorily and follow up on any deficiencies;

  • Calculate and compare costs for required goods or services to achieve maximum ensuring the building meets health and safety requirements and that facilities comply with legislation;

  • Responding appropriately to facility emergencies, or urgent issues as they arise, even after normal working hours.

  • Provide training as needed for forklift and crane.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Support Continuous Improvement efforts such as Kaizen Events, general fabrication EH&S efforts, etc.

Additional/Specific Requirements

Designated employees in this job classification may be required to handle, transport, and/or participate in clean up of minor hazardous waste spills. Prior to performing any of the above activities, designated employees will have satisfactorily completed training in Hazardous Waste Handling. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • 10-15 years experience including supervision in a manufacturing environment

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent education and work experience

  • Understanding of all components of an EHS program, including accident investigation, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, life safety, machine guarding, air permitting, waste water, hazardous waste, property conservation and workers’ compensation

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.

The salary range for this position is: $72,400-$101,970 annually. Actual compensation will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications and other factors allowed by law. Individuals are not typically hired at or near the top of the salary range.
