Job Description
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for managing the general accounting function and closing the monthly books in accordance with U.S.GAAP. Oversees the completion of ledger accounts, financial statements and all auditor requests. Evaluates and makes appropriate improvements to internal accounting processes ensuring that practices are in line with the overall goals of the organization. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks, leading and directing the work of others. A wide degree of adaptability and adherence to deadlines is expected.
Essential Functions
Supervises subordinate personnel in the accounting department and the accounts payable supervisor.
Oversees monitors and works to improve accounting procedures, internal controls and database management, which impact the monthly general ledger closings.
Audits work flow to ensure that all accounting transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with industry standards.
Reviews and justify expense reports and other expenditures.
Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions.
Supervises the preparation of monthly journal entries in accordance with U.S. GAAP and approves the journal entries of staff.
Assists in the preparation of financial statements and providing audit support to the external auditors of the company.
Helps maintain accountability of the financial resources.
Handles personally or supervises general ledger account and subledger reconciliations.
Ensures compliance with all internal controls.
Trains staff on proper company procedures.
Assists Senior Controller with a variety of tasks as needed.
Reviews monthly closing processes to prevent and detect errors and achieve the monthly close deadlines.
Handles special projects as requested by management.
Helps with the preparation of the yearly audit.
Qualifications
3-5 years of public accounting & 5-10 years of corporate accounting experience
Bachelor’s degree/CPA or equivalent education and work experience
Displays vast knowledge of math and exceptional accounting skills.
Possesses strong leadership, supervisory and management abilities.
Has excellent critical thinking as well as analytical skills.
Exhibits strong computer skills and knowledge of relevant technology.
Demonstrates extensive knowledge of financial systems.
Possesses exceptional organizational skills and is an effective time manager and multi-tasker.
Displays the ability to pay close attention to detail.
Demonstrates good interpersonal skills along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Has a strong working knowledge accepting accounting practices and financial accounting standards
The salary range for this position is: $95,970-$151,000. Actual compensation will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications and other factors allowed by law. Individuals are not typically hired at or near the top of the salary range.
