Job Description

The Assistant Controller holds overall responsibility for the general accounting function. This includes managing the completion of ledger accounts & financial statements while evaluating and making appropriate improvements to internal accounting processes to ensure that practices are in line with the overall goals of the organization. Assistant Controller must be able to lead and direct work of others as well as use experience and judgment to accomplish Company goals.

 

Essential Functions

  • Supervise subordinate personnel in accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Oversee, monitor and work to improve accounting procedures, internal controls and database management
  • Audit work flow to ensure that all accounting transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with industry standards
  • Review and justify expense reports and other expenditures
  • Improve systems& procedures and initiate corrective actions
  • Supervise the preparation of monthly journal entries
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements
  • Help maintain accountability of financial resources
  • Manage general ledger reconciliations
  • Ensure compliance with all internal controls
  • Train staff on proper Company procedures
  • Assist Controller with a variety of tasks as needed
  • Review monthly closing processes to prevent error
  • Handle special projects as requested by  senior management
  • Assist with the preparation of the yearly audit

 

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of public accounting & 3-5 years of corporate accounting experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree/CPA or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Polished leadership, supervisory and management abilities
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of relevant technologies/financial systems
  • Exceptional organizational skills/effective time management
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal skills along with excellent written communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and financial accounting standards
